Securing our Democratic Majority

Voter Registration in 2017 / 2018 is the key to Democratic Leadership in Riverside County!

The November 2016 election was a shock to this country’s psychic stability. In the aftermath of that election there has been a great uprising of resistance groups across the country. They are vocal, visible, and they are huge in numbers.

Now, as we turn our sights on upcoming political races on the calendar for 2017 and 2018, we Democrats are energized by the possibilities we see to make major inroads on the strangle-hold the Republicans currently have on Washington and on state governments across the nation.

For many years, Riverside County and the Coachella Valley were islands of Republican conservatism. That is now changing. There is a significant demographic movement underway as new residents move into our County and beautiful desert communities. Our job at Democratic Headquarters of the Desert is to give them opportunities and reasons to become voting Democrats and to ensure that they are currently registered to vote. This becomes an on-going challenge for us!

The key is Voter Registration.

We would like all of our new residents to vote for progressive Democratic candidates who will represent us in local, state and federal offices. Our very successful Voter Registration program has registered thousands of new voters and they’ve overwhelmingly chosen to register as Democrats!

As of May 8, 2017 the Riverside County Registrar of Voters reported a total of 1,023,709 registered voters county-wide. Of those, Democrats led with 388,443 voters, or 37.9% of registered voters while Republicans trailed with 362,959 voters, or 35.5% of registrants. Decline-to-State voters and minor party voters combined to make up the additional 26.6%.

In our 36th Congressional District, which is a large part of Riverside County, registered Democrats currently lead Republicans by 5.0%. This reflects both Congressman Raul Ruiz’s popularity as well as the impact Democratic voter registration is having on our electorate. In the hotly-contested 42nd Assembly District where we previously trailed Republicans by over 7%, Democrats now have a razor-thin lead! The current figures show Democrats with 37.2% of registered voters compared with 37.1% for the Republicans! Those with No Party Preference make up 20.4% of the balance. We are clearly building leading positions across the entire County. (Note: All figures taken from Riverside County Registrar of Voters Voter Registration Summary dated 5/8/2017)

As we approach the mid-term elections in November 2018 we are continuing our efforts to build a sustaining lead in registered Democratic voters throughout all of Riverside County.

Democratic Headquarters of the Desert is the hub of a dynamic program of voter registration. And the County Registrar’s figures prove that we are getting the job done!
